"ARE YOU EXPERIENCED?"
Advancement in Necromunda: Millennium Edition

One of the most rewarding aspects of playing in a campaign rather than a series of one-Off games is that you get to watch your beloved gangsters rise to power, growing from mere Juves into full-fledged Gangsters and sometimes even further.

Now, since N:me uses a different characteristic profile and extremely different systems, Experience is naturally going to need changing. However, the differences run deeper than a simple adaptation to a new system. Contiuing with the work begun in Mordheim I have distinguished between the "characters" and "normal guys" in a gang and reduced the emphasis on Skills even further. You may not agree with that idea, but please, give my way a chance!

Cronies and Veterans

It is important to distinguish between the run of the mill normal guys in your gang and those who’ve got what it takes because advancement is handled differently depending on whether you are a Crony or a Veteran. Cronies are the normal, unremarkable guys who's role in films is to get killed by the action star and to not matter a whole lot - much like their role in the game. Veterans, on the other hand, are the guys who would be played by Dolph Lundgren or Arnie if their life story were made into a movie.

Because your gang is comprised largely of Cronies it is not possible to deal with their advancement to the same level of detail as your Veterans do. Therefore, when a Crony advances, he becomes in every way the type of gangster next along his progression chart. For example, when a Juve advances, he becomes a Gangster and his profile changes to that of a gangster. From now on, he is treated exactly like any other gangster in your gang.

Characters, however, are another matter. Being individuals, they have their own individual strengths and weaknesses and these are reflected in their stat line and abilities. When a character advances, you should roll on the Advance Table for your gang and alter the character’s statistics accordingly. He also rolls on your gangs Skill table - though this may give him nothing, or something he'd rather not have!

When Does a Model Advance?

Models advancement is measured by Experience points (ExP) which are recorded next to the model’s entry on your gang roster. The scenario you are playing will detail what experience is given out after the game.

Cronies

When a Crony reaches the appropriate number of experience points as detailed in its entry in your gang’s list it advances to the next step in it’s progression. Erase all of the models ExP and alter it’s entry accordingly.

Veterans

Veterans advance according to the table at the end of this section, making a roll on their chart every time they pass from one level of ExP to the next. The result of this roll is recorded and their ExP remains as it is - do not delete it as you do with the little guys! Veterans also roll on the Skill table for their gang, given in the experience section of it's list.

Veteran Advance Table (Roll one D6)
D6     Advance
1 Gain +1 Wits
2 Gain +1 Guts
3 Gain +1 Fightin'
4 Gain +1 Shooting'
5-6 Roll again on the Stereotype Advance Table for your gang, given in your gangs list.

You will perhaps note that it isn't possible to get Body on this chart. This is deliberate as the range for this characteristic is less than the others - humans range from 3 to 4, rather than 2 to 6. If it were as available as the others diferences between tough gangs and weak ones would be eroded very quickly! Therefore the only way to increase your strength is by gaining the skill "Built like a Brick ****house", which increases your Body by 1 point. In this way, normal guys will never have it, keeping the gang as a whole to the right level of hardness.
